This little painting (25 x 35 cm) is one of my favourites. It was created in 1998, on relatively thin paper as was available at the time in Dubai. Like the majority of Hamida's creations it is rather symbolic, not covering actual situations or living creatures.

The world's oceans, the deep sea is a fascinating and mysterious realm, teeming with life forms that have evolved to thrive in extreme conditions. The beaches look pretty but the waterworld is different from what we humans think at first glance. The land creatures can adapt a little bit, stay under water for a period of time but not for good. What often seems unconsidered is that the oceans of the world are jungles with all kind of dangerous species.
And so is the business world.
The oceans hold a wealth of species which come along with all their designed looks and beauty. From the vibrant hues of coral reefs to the delicate forms of jellyfish, there is a stunning array of aesthetic wonders beneath the waves. Only nobody can trust nobody down there. It's all one thing: big fish eats smaller fish.
